With a name like Robyn and a love of music, quotes such as these stick with me … and direct me. (I know this is all a little sappy, but so am I at times. If you don’t like “pink” you’ll probably want to find another blog to read.
)
Hope sings of love, grace, mercy and purpose. Hope reminds us that our challenging circumstances don’t have to define us, but can give us a new place from which to start, a new lesson learned, a new path forged. And when Hope shows up, we should share the song with others. “Tell of His works with songs of joy” (Psalm 107:22).
Songbird Soundtrack serves a space to share Spirit-filled songs that have significantly affected my mind and heart … songs that accompany me on this journey through the life God has given me to spend on His behalf.
With 15 years of professional writing behind me, I’ve learned I’m inclined toward too many adjectives for traditional PR writing and too much prose for songwriting, but I do love the allure of alliteration and the melodic chime of rhythm and rhyme.
As well, it is an accepted fact in our family that the only time I should sing out loud is in the company of Chris Tomlin and 5,000 of his closest friends (so no one can hear me
). Since my access to live Tomlin tunes is limited, it’s best I sing a new song (Psalm 40:1-3) through a collection of lyrical blog posts.
Songbird Songtrack accompanies Hope Shows, a nonprofit organization founded to get the hope of the gospel as presented in Christian music and other Christ-centered media where it’s most needed, including prison concerts and benefit events on behalf of prison ministry. Through the Hope Rocks Campaign, Hope Shows raises awareness and financial support for prison ministry activities.
Victor Hugo is quoted as saying, “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.” Songs sing for us. Sometimes they sing in spite of us, inside of us, finding us and guiding us. Songs give us words and melody to enlist help, express joy and encourage hope.
